WNYC – Radiolab » Stochasticity.
Fun story about randomness, I guess that’s what stochasticity means…Anyway, I think I’ve found a new site to love.
It begins with the story of a 10 year old girl (almost) who releases a red balloon with her name on it asking that it be returned to her if found. It travels against prevailing winds about 140 miles and comes down in the yard of another 10 year old girl with the exact same name! More weird similarities are found.

Two icons of my childhood and practically my whole life died yesterday. I tried to find photos where they looked happy. Both of the images are from the Life Magazine archives.
What happens to MJ’s kids now? Wonder what we will see from them in the coming years. My heart goes out to them.
Farrah fought a long a brave fight with cancer. That hits close to home for me as my son was diagnosed with cancer a couple years ago. He has no sign of it now, but it will always haunt us and we will always be watching for it.
On that note, if you use Twitter, please go to BlameDrewsCancer.com and blame something on Drew’s cancer. It’s for a good cause.

I was downtown yesterday and stopped by Whole Foods. I just have to say for the umpteenth time, that those people know how to do a grocery store. The prices are pretty ridiculous, but the downtown Austin Whole Foods is a siteseeing extravaganza. The desserts and candy section will kill you! I noticed, as I walked, that people were on their cellphones describing the store to friends or family that were not able to come with them. I just thought to myself how weird that a supermarket would be a tourist destination, but seriously? It’s not a place to miss if you’re ever in Austin.
I wish I could find some good photos online. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t just go in and take some of my own.

The trailer for the documentary ‘Tapped’. It’s about our ridiculous reliance on bottled water and what it’s doing to our country and to us. Really makes you think.

This is a fascinating story of twin savants – the only set of female twin savants known. They are adorable and their story is just amazing. Their parents both died within months of each other and their sister ended up taking them in until she died in her forties. They worship (literally) Dick Clark. And they remember everything that ever happened to them. Including the day their mother turned on the gas in the oven and tried to kill all three of them. The story is quite nice in spite of that.
Frozen Baby FYI » Postcards From Yo Momma.
Frozen Baby FYI
mom: If you see a frozen baby, don’t give up. Because babies can stay frozen for a very long time.
me: I really hope you don’t know this from experience. Because right now I am seriously questioning your child rearing skills.
mom: no, I was just watching Frozen River and I remembered reading that somewhere. don’t give u
Don’t Passive-Aggressive-Smile-Face-ME
Mom: So when we come to Sydney can we stay at yours?
Mom: Hello?
Me: Oh. Sure. Well, actually there are a number of awesome hotels just a two minute walk from my house. I’ve just emailed you a bunch of links. Have a look! Am happy to book any of them for you. But, yeah, of course you are welcome to stay at mine, if you really want to.
Me: Mom?
Mom: You were welcome to stay in my uterus for nine months, and then my house for 17 years. But I understand, a week at your apartment might be a bit … much.
Me: Don’t you passive-aggressive-smile-face-ME, woman.
Mom: Fuck off. Love you – M.
Mom, Dad and Facebook: A Dangerous Combo
Mom: How do I unfriend on Facebook?
Me: What, you only have like 8 friends, who do you want to get rid of.
Mom: That’s really none of your business, and I have 40 friends thank you very much.
Me: That’s right, Dad has 8 heheh
Mom: Not for long!
I adore this site. I have a feeling it speaks more to moms and daughters, so if you’re a guy and the three above don’t make you laugh, I doubt the rest will either.
Interesting story from the New York Times about a divided prom in Mount Vernon, GA. Divided as in one prom for the white kids and one for the black kids. In 2009. I find this pretty disturbing. It’s also really eye opening to hear the completely opposing views. The white kids interviewed think it’s perfectly fine (except for one) while the black kids think it’s atrocious.
